South Okanagan farmers forced into selling more U.S. stone fruit to make ends meet

Fruits like peaches and plums are appearing on South Okanagan fruit stands, despite farmers not growing any due to extreme weather this year.

That’s because farmers who want product on their shelves are forced to sell U.S. stone fruits, many of whom are doing so for the first time this year.

“[We’ve been] doing this for 32 years, and it’s never happened — we never bought U.S. fruit,” said Beantjit Chahal, Nature’s Basket owner in Oliver.
